Absolutely heartbreaking to see a healthy dog degenerate quickly.

I've got a 6yr old GSD that's been an awesome best bud since we got him. Since Dec 18th, he's developed Degenerative Myelopathy, a spinal cord disease as well as polyarthritis. The DM affects his back legs, making it extremely difficult for him to stand up and get around. In that time since the diagnosis, he's had good days and bad ones. Times where you say "well this is it" and others where you go "maybe he's getting better!"

Since Monday it's escalated at a phenomenal rate. He's having great difficulty standing up and has a tough time walking. He doesn't understand it though because he can't feel his hind quarters at all times. So his brain and front 3/4 of his body is "normal" and saying "let's go!" but he's literally dragging his back legs and has a tough time getting them moving in concert with the rest. The good news is that the DM isn't causing any pain. Obviously the arthritis does.

We have a 2nd opinion consultation tomorrow afternoon but unless they come back with some miracle treatment or drug, we're going to have some tough decisions to make very soon.

Just crazy that he was playing ball and chasing squirrels on one day and struggling to move the next.
